In the world of 1.09 the game has become much more micro intensive, and armies now need to be mixed properly to pull out the win. That said, you will likely be met with a well mixed enemy barrage poised and ready to strike. You need to think one step ahead and assume your foe will be mixing infantry into armada.

Why bother?

Having Infantry to support your units act not only as a meat shild from cannon fire, but they really can increase your firepower towards both ground attack, and act as great anti-air. Having them be a necessity, building anti infantry is even more crucial. Rather than building sub-par anti-infantry vehicles, why not return the favor and build more infantry.
用步兵支援你的部队不仅是让他们当肉盾,他们确实可以增加你对空对地的火力。拥有它们是非常必要的,拥有反步兵单位更加至关重要。与其造那些低级的反步兵车辆,为什么不掌握主动多造些步兵呢?

This is a plus for a few reasons:

  • It gives your tanks a break and the infantry act as a meatshield and allow your cannon firing units to deal effective damage.
  • They are cheap. Anti-infantry units really get the job done, and although require you to micro them to attack other infantry and not tanks, are really worth their value, and so much more.
